What is DNS ?

DNS is short for Domain Name System and its task is to translate hostnames like www.foo.com into
ip addresses like 192.168.0.10 since hostnames are much easier to remember than a ip address.
A lookup like this is called a DNS query and any application that this tries to access a address like www.foo.com
generates a query that hopefully resolves into an ip address.

Where can i get a domainname ?

If you want a domainname you will have to register it with a registrar that offer services for the TLD that you choose.
TLD stands for Top Level Domain and it's the last part of an address, for example .com if you want to register foo.com.
There are a lot of registrars on the internet and the cost for a domainname can vary.

    We provide the possibility to act as authoritative name servers for your domain.

    What is dynamic dns and why do i need it ?

    Dynamic DNS is needed when the ip-address of a machine changes every time the machine connects to the internet and this
    machine needs to be accessible via a host-/domain-name. This is typical when a server connects to the internet via dialup-modem or ADSL.
    When the server gets connected to the internet or it changes its ip address it sends an update request to the DNS provider
    telling the provider to update its record for the hostname/domain.

    And what about Domain Hosting ?

    Our Domain Hosting is our way of trying to provide a basic internet functionality for free while giving the user the tools to maintain full control.

    What is URL Forwarding and why do i need it ?

    URL forwarding can be used to simplify a complex address to a webpage or a function deep down in a website and make it much more easy to find.

    We provide two versions of this service, a frame or a redirect. If you choose the frame option you will have the name/address you registerd in the address field of the browser or if you choose the redirect the users browser will be redirected to the address you have specified.



    How do I get started? What nameservers do I use ?

    Here's a short list describing the steps you need to complete:

  • Create a Loopback account if you don't have one already
  • Login with your account and create the domain in "Domain Admin"
  • Buy/register your domain with your favorite registrar and enter Loopback:s nameservers ( see below ) as the DNS servers for the domain.
  • Wait until your domain has become active ( this will take some time and you can't do anything about this time, normal time for this step is about 1-3 days )

    Loopbacks Nameserver:

  • ns1.authnamed.com
  • ns2.authnamed.com
  • ns3.authnamed.com

    How many accounts am I allowed to have ?

    You are allowed one account per valid email-address and each account allows you to manage 5 domains.

    Why can't I login ?

    Verify that your username and password is enterd exactly as in the email sent to you.

    I've lost my password, HELP!

    Goto Feedback and choose "Lost Password"

    How do i change my email-address ?

    Log in with your username and password and then click "Edit User Details", update the password field and click update.

    How do i contact Loopback ?

    Vissit out website at     http://www.loopback.se and click the link Contact in the menu on the left hand side of the page.


    The client doesn't update my DynDns host ?

    Make sure you enter both the hostname and domain name in the client settings.

    Correct: testhost.stabilt.se
    Wrong: testhost
